I wish they’d left in the stripe.
The Holmes Cool Mist Humidifier is really a great humidifier. I’ve used one in my daughter’s bedroom for 3 years now. The filters are treated with an antimicrobial agent to keep harmful bacteria at bay longer. We usually go through a filter a month, on average, during the winter months. My only complaint is that they took out the blue/red strip that used to tell you when it was time to change the filter. That really came in handy. Overall, though, the filter and the humidifier work great.

Getting a little more time out of your filter
I noticed that if I take a teaspoon of bleach and put it in a resevior full of water after 3 or 4 weeks in a new filter, I get almost two months during a filter instead of the usual month. There is a faint smell of bleach on the first day or two, but it disappears quickly.
